Who we are?

FOLUR Global Platform

The Food Systems, Land Use, and Restoration (FOLUR) initiative is a global effort aimed at transforming agricultural practices and land use to promote sustainability, food security, and the restoration of agricultural lands. Implemented in 27 countries worldwide, FOLUR is collectively funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

As a global effort to transform food systems and land use, this program focuses on accelerating action through a landscape-based approach to strengthen sustainable value chains.

FOLUR Indonesia

As part of the FOLUR Global initiative, the FOLUR project in Indonesia focuses on integrating sustainable food systems with effective land management. This strategic, nationwide project is a collaborative effort involving the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, with technical support from UNDP Indonesia and FAO Indonesia.

In Indonesia, FOLUR supports sustainable land use to protect biodiversity while promoting sustainable value chains in four key commodities: Coffee, Cocoa, Rice, and Palm Oil. One of the approaches includes mainstreaming green and low-carbon growth, which aligns with the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2020–2024.

The FOLUR Indonesia project is implemented in five strategic regions: Central Aceh Regency in Aceh Province, Mandailing Natal Regency in North Sumatra Province, Sanggau Regency in West Kalimantan Province, Luwu Regency in South Sulawesi Province, and Sorong Regency in Southwest Papua Province. Using an Integrated Landscape Management (ILM) approach, FOLUR Indonesia aims to create more environmentally friendly and sustainable food production systems while preserving the health of Indonesia's natural ecosystems.

By closely collaborating with local governments, communities, and private sector stakeholders, this program aims to create more sustainable and productive agricultural landscapes. This includes strengthening the capacities of both male and female farmers.

Key components of FOLUR Indonesia include implementing sustainable land use policies, enhancing the capacities of farmers and land managers, and developing market mechanisms that encourage sustainable practices. Through these efforts, FOLUR Indonesia aims to increase biodiversity, mitigate climate change, and build a more resilient and sustainable food system.
